David Gerstein was born in Jerusalem in 1944, to parents who had emigrated from Poland to Israel. Gerstein is an outstanding Israeli artist, internationally renowned for his unique style.
Davis was the first to work with aluminum cut-outs, he creates colorful, layered images of still-life compositions, urban landscapes and scenes taken from everyday life. His versatile collection of work includes stunning metal wall sculptures formed as multi-layered cut-outs; paintings, sculptures and other objects of art.
Monumental statues by Gerstein adorn cities around the world. He has participated in numerous public art projects as well as decorating the interior and exterior of buildings. His works are displayed at major museums and also in private collections in Israel and abroad.
David Gerstein’s art is characterized by light hearted imagery which conveys a certain irony and humor. The images are beautifully intricate and yet for the artist himself, they remain simple and innocent - a reflection he says, of his childhood in the 1950's.
